Some people live at the gym but are still overweight

How is this possible?

You cannot out-train a bad diet.

It is a hundred zillion times easier to eat calories than to burn them off. So no matter how many days you're making it to the gym, if your diet is out of whack, you won't lose any fat.

This was my situation. Let's rewind a couple of years.

Not exactly the picture you'd expect of someone who is passionate about health and fitness, right?

But I swear to you, I was! And I was going to the gym all the time.

I was pretty fit too: I could lift, run, do pull-ups, and my cardiovascular fitness was great.

So what was the problem?

My diet.

Now, I know what you're thinking...

I must have been knee-deep in a diet of processed food.

False!

That's the thing - I was eating "healthy".

Mostly whole foods, lots of fruits and veggies.

What was I doing wrong?

I was overeating.

That's it, that's all it takes.

You can have the "healthiest" diet imaginable, but if you eat too much you won't lose weight.

I finally clued into what was happening.

I learned as much as I could about nutrition: I listened to podcasts, read books, and I picked up a certification from the ISSA as a Nutritionist.

I learned how to track my nutrition and create a custom plan that would work for me.

And this is the result:

That's the difference between the two pictures.

  • In the first one, I'm "eating healthy."
  • In this second one, I'm tracking what I eat.

No magic program, no super morning ab workout. No ashwagandha-infused tree-bark mushroom cocktails for breakfast.

I simply started tracking my calories.

It doesn't suck as much as you think

Mention calorie counting and most people immediately run away from you as fast as they can.

To say it has a bad rep is putting it mildly.

But honestly, it doesn't have to be this way. If you avoid some of the common pitfalls and set yourself up for success, you can create a sustainable and flexible system around nutrition tracking that will let you make progress towards your goals without having to follow a rigid diet.

The Complete Guide To Tracking Nutrition will provide you with everything you need to know to implement a sustainable approach to tracking so that you can finally reach your fitness goals without wondering what you're doing wrong.

You'll learn about

  • Macronutrients & Micronutrients
  • Energy Balance
    • What are calories?
    • Various components of metabolism and metabolic adaptation
  • How to properly use a calorie deficit or surplus
